The University of New Mexico concluded day one of competition in eighth place, with 110 points, at the 2008 Nike Cup Invitational in Long Beach, Calif.

Sophomore Jennifer Patterson claimed eighth-place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.69, it was the highest finish for the Lobos. She was followed in 23rd by Maria Dudley (5:08.69).

In the 50-yard freestyle Freshman Marissa Campbell placed ninth, touching the wall in 23.53.

UNM claimed a top 10 spot in the 400-yard medley relay with Campbell, Jocelyn Colella, Jennifer Patterson and Tesse Maciejko (3:57.49).

Maciejko, Patterson, Campbell and Katrina McLoughlin finished 11th in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:38.03).

The Lobos will continue competition at the Nike Cup Invitational Friday. All events will wrap up Saturday.
