ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico head volleyball coach Jeff Nelson has announced the signing of Chantale Riddle to a National Letter of Intent during the 2008-09 early signing period. It is the first volleyball signing for the 2009-10 incoming class.
“Chantale might be the best female athlete in the state of New Mexico in the 2008 class,” said Nelson. “Her high school volleyball and basketball teams have excelled during her time at Roswell and she is a state record holder in track. I am so excited to have her joining our Lobo Volleyball program as she is dynamic and can contribute immediately.”
Riddle is a 6-0, senior middle blocker from Roswell High School in New Mexico. The Coyotes were 4A state champions in 2006 behind Riddle’s solid defense and advanced to the state finals in 2007. Last week, RHS, coached by Bryan Masse, advanced to the New Mexico 4A state semifinals at Johnson Center and lost a tough five-set match to St. Pius X.
“She will play very high above the net and has great foot and arm speed,” continued Nelson. “There are not many recruits in the country more athletic than Chantale. There is no question she will bring a very exciting element to Lobo Volleyball both offensively and defensively with her huge block.”
A three-sport athlete for Roswell, Riddle was recently named to the 4A all-state volleyball first team after her senior season, adding to her all-state honors in basketball and track & field. In 2008, Riddle set the 4A state record in girls’ long jump at 18′ 2.5″.
