Complete All-MPSF Teams in PDF Format ![]()
Six Lobos were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer all-conference teams today. Juniors Justin Davis and Simon Ejdemyr were first team selections while seniors Jack Smithson and Chris Wright were honored on the second team. Sophomores Ryan Farquharson and Michael Reed were given honorable mention recognition.
Davis led the MPSF in scoring during the 2008 regular season. He posted 20 points on seven goals and six assists to earn his first all-league honors. A Lobo has led the MPSF in scoring against NCAA competition each year since 2004, including Jeff Rowland in 2004 and 2005 and Wright in 2006 and 2007. Davis, a 6-0 forward from Litchfield Park, Ariz., now has 38 points on 13 goals and 12 assists in his career. He needs two more assists to break into the top-10 on the Lobos’ all-time list.
Ejdemyr was named first team All-MPSF for the third time in his career. The 6-5 defender from Boras, Sweden, was slowed by a knee injury that cost him four games during the season. However, he still managed to post a career-high 11 points on five goals and one assist. Ejdemyr now has 19 career points with nine goals and one assist.
Smithson scored 12 points with four goals and four assists in 2008, earning his third All-MPSF honor. A 5-9 midfielder from Chicago, Ill., he was a second team selection in 2006 and honorable mention last season. Smithson finishes his Lobo career with 29 points off of nine goals and 11 assists.
Wright, the 2007 MPSF Player of the Year, earns his third all-league honor. A 6-5 forward from Fair Oaks, Calif., he was also a second team selection in 2006. He scored six goals and three assists for 15 points in 2008. He made his mark on UNM’s record books, ranking seventh in scoring with 68 points, fifth in goals with 26, sixth in shots with 148 and sixth in games played with 80.
Farquharson played in al 19 games at right-back, tallying three assists on the season. The 6-1 defender from Phoenix, Ariz., has a goal and four assists in his career. This is his first all-conference recognition.
Reed, a former high school All-American and New Mexico prep player of the year, started all 19 games in the midfield. Slowed by knee surgery early in his Lobo career, the 6-0 midfielder from Albuquerque, N.M., finally played a full season at 100% in his third year in the program. He has two career assists.
The Lobos finished with an 11-6-2 record, just missing out on an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Smithson, Wright and Mike Porter are the lone graduating seniors, giving New Mexico eight starters returning for the 2009 season.
