ALBUQUERQUE, NM – With the PGA Tour currently holding its annual Tour Qualifying Tournament – or Q School, as it is commonly called – seven former Lobos have advanced to the second stage of qualifying.

Doug Labelle II (UNM 1995-98) and Jay Choi (2003-06) began the first round of their second-stage qualifying tournament today at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif. The four-round tournament runs through Saturday, Nov. 22. Labelle II is scheduled to start the tournament in the first group teeing off at 9:00a.m. MST, paired with Jin Park and Bob Burns. Choi is in the second-to-last group to tee off at 10:55a.m. and is paired with Anders Hultman and Peter Karmis.

Charlie Beljan (2004-07), Wil Collins (1999-00), Chris Wall (1996-99) and Kent Jones (1986-76, 89-90) will all take part in the Second Stage Qualifier at the Lantana Golf Club in Lantana, Texas. Beljan tee off at 8:00a.m. and is paired with Tommy Barber and Tom Kalinowslki. Wil Collins tees off at 8:50 and is paired with Clayton Rask and Stuart Deane. Kent Jones tees off at 8:40 and is paired with Alex Prugh and David Gossett. Wall, teeing off at 9:20a.m., is paired with Lu Sen Lien and Michael Walton.

Sean Murphy (1985-88) is the lone former Lobo to have already taken his shot at the second stage of qualifying, shooting a four-round total of 302 (18-over par) on November 12-15 at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, FL. With only the top 20 finishers advancing, Murphy needed to shoot a 280 or better to move on to the final qualifying stage.

Although the PGA Q School technically has four stages of qualifying, the first round of tournaments are called Pre-Qualifying, meaning that second round of tournaments is actually the first stage, the third round considered the second stage, and the fourth called the final stage.

The following former Lobos already have their PGA Tour cards for 2009: Tommy Armour III ((1980-81), Tim Herron (1990-93), Michael Letzig (2000-03) and Spencer Levin (2004-05).
