University of New Mexico men’s basketball head coach Steve Alford announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent today. The Lobos will welcome 6-6 local product Chad Adams (Albuquerque, N.M. – Highland HS); 5-9 point guard Jamal Fenton (Houston, Texas – Cesar E. Chavez HS); 6-7 combo guard Darington Hobson (Las Vegas, Nev. – College of Eastern Utah) and 6-9 forward Matt Staff (Houston, Texas, Memorial HS) in the fall of 2009.
“We are very excited about the class we have put together for 2009,” stated Alford. “It comes after an excellent class we had last year and recruiting is continuing to look good in the future. We have addressed some issues that we felt we needed to take care of with this class, adding size, speed and athletic ability to our line up.”

Preseason NJCAA First Team All-American at the College of Eastern Utah in Price, Utah…Third Team NJCAA All-American for CEU last year…led CEU to a 17-15 mark in 2007-08 and was named First Team All-Conference…averaged 18.4 ppg and 8.3 rpg, while shooting 49.3% from the floor…Rated a four-start recruit by Scout.com as the 25th best small forward in the country coming out of high school…averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists at Decatur Christian High School in Decatur, Ill. as a senior…listed as the 116th best prospect in the class of 2007 by Rivals.com…PERSONAL…Born Sept. 29, 1987.
