Former University of New Mexico men’s golfer Spencer Levin (2004-05) was one of 25 Nationwide Tour players who secured a 2009 PGA TOUR card at the season-ending Nationwide Tour Championship at TPC Craig Ranch this weekend. Levin finished the event tied for 16th at 9-under (66-69-69-71=275) and was No. 22 on the final money list with $236,185 in earnings.
His best finish on the Nationwide Tour in 2008 was a tie for second at the Preferred Health Systems Wichita (KS) Open. The also had a third place showing and seven top-10s.”Just being on the PGA TOUR is going to be a dream come true,” stated Levin. I’ve thought about it since I started playing. I feel absolute relieve. I’m just happy to get it done.”
The Nationwide Tour’s 30-tournament season came to a pressure-packed conclusion today at TPC Craig Ranch near Dallas with Matt Bettencourt winning the $1 million Nationwide Tour Championship.
Levin is still the career stroke average leader at New Mexico. He posted a 70.20 average in 64 rounds in his two-year career at UNM. His 69.98 average in 2005 is the Lobos’ single season record. The two-time All-American is also tied for second at UNM with four career wins. Levin led New Mexico to a fifth place finish at the 2005 NCAA Championships.
