ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico sophomore forward Porche Torrance will miss the 2008-09 basketball season due to a knee injury suffered at practice Wednesday. Torrance, who played in the first exhibition game of the year, tore her right ACL and will undergo surgery.

The 6-foot-1, Torrance, played in 30 games as a freshman and was expected to contribute this year. The Grapevine, Texas, native averaged 1.5 rebounds per game and 0.9 points per game last season.

“This was a very unfortunate practice injury,” said UNM head coach Don Flanagan. “We are going to miss having her available. Porche was making a lot of progress and we hope for a speedy recover.”
