The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team fell to Wyoming tonight 151-90 in Laramie, Wyo. Freshman Marissa Campbell once again stepped up and led the Lobos with one of two first-places finishes for the team.
Campbell’s top finish came in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.96. The other first-place finish for UNM was captured by junior Jennifer Patterson in the 100-yard butterfly (59.65), who was followed by fellow junior Ashley Grisdale in second (59.74).
Campbell finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.28. Sasha Evangulova also secured a second place finish for the Lobos with a score of 275.50 on the 1-meter dive. Freshman Jocelyn Colella placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.23.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay the Lobos captured second-place (Tesse Maciejko, Theresa Rogers, Katrina McLoughlin, Campbell) with a time of 1:38.79, and third-place, touching the wall in 1:43.39 (Sally Bellinger, Melissa Neary, Megan Gugerty, Maria Dudley).
UNM also secured second and third-place finishes in two other events. The first came in the 500-yard freestyle with Dudley placing second (5:21.07) and Bridget O’Hara coming in third place (5:24.58). The other sweep of the second and third spots came from Nanette Wittenberg (1:11.07) and Nicole Peirce (1:11.13), respectively in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Lobos are now 2-5 on the season and 1-4 in Mountain West Conference competition.
New Mexico will have a short break before traveling to Long Beach, Calif. for the NIKE Cup Invitational Nov. 20-22.
