Head Coach Don Flanagan
Thoughts on the game:
“I thought it was less than impressive. I thought wecould do a lot better than that. We played a littlenervous, missed a lot of easy shots. With an unorthodoxoffense, it’s kind of difficult to defend because theyplayed so far away from the basket you had a hard timegetting help side but at the same time I didn’t think weperformed particularly well. Playing a lot of players likethat, 13 players, trying to keep everybody’s minutes up isdifficult. Then you end up sometimes subbing out acombination that could start to get hot. But at the sametime you got to do it because it’s an exhibition game, youwant to see how everybody does, see how everybody plays.”
On the defensive play:
“I thought our transition defense was poor the first half, got better the second half. Half court defense was fairthroughout the night. Offense, we missed way too many easyshots, layups and the threes weren’t that bad but Ithought we could shoot the threes even better than that.We had open threes, just didn’t hit them. Wasn’t great, but we win by 40 or something like that so you got tounderstand that they weren’t the best competition in theworld but we didn’t play poor, I thought we played alittle below average.”
Closing remarks:
“I was a little surprised at some of our players that Iwant to put in that mix and play more often, conditioningwise they got a little tired. I think that was nerves.Sometimes they get fatigued just because of theanxiousness before a game and I thought conditioning wasgood up to now but they seem to be a little bit nervousfor the first exhibition but I think that’s normal. Idon’t think you play your best game at this time of theseason. I think we have a ways to go but I saw some brightspots. I saw some things that I liked, some things Ididn’t like and we need to work on.”

Comment on tonight’s game with Melbourne
“I was fun to play against another team and especially ateam from Australia. We didn’t play as well as we hadwanted. We had some moments when we played well butoverall we have a lot to work on. It will be fun to getback to practice and see the things we did well and thethings we need to work on.”
Comment on things to work on
“Our offense was jumbled and we need to work on ourspacing. We got beat in transition way to many times andcommitted to many fouls.”
Comment on the defensive performance
“We stress defense and have been nationally ranked. Wethought we would have played better tonight. It’s ourfirst exhibition game so hopefully we can get back to worktomorrow and fix some things.”
