The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team wrapped up its third day of play at the UNM Individuals Invitational today. The Lobos won two of their matches in consolation play and lost some hard fought matches in the main draw.
In consolation play Emma Hayman captured a win over Iowa State’s Christine Marie Chartier 6-3, 6-4. Also victorious was Manumea Durie who defeated Carolina Deluca from UTEP 1-6, 6-3, 10-5.
Sophomore Anya Villanueva-Forte lost to Sofia Ayala from Missouri 6-2, 2-6, 7-6. After losing in the second set, Villanueva-Forte battled her way through the third to come just short of the win.
Meanwhile, at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament senior Ola Abou-Zerky lost to Anouk Tigu from Arkansas 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 in semifinals.
“Ola had a very good tournament,” head coach Kathy Kolankiewicz said. “She played very well throughout the tournament and it was tough loss for her.”
Action for the UNM Individuals Invitational continues tomorrow starting at 8 a.m.
