It was a good day of tennis for the University of New Mexico women’s team. Senior Ola Abou-Zerky won both of her matches to advance to the quarterfinals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament.
Abou-Zerky’s first win came against Camila Belassi from CU 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 in the round of 32. She captured another win in the round of 16 against conference rival BYU’s McCall Jones 6-3, 6-2. McCall is ranked eighth in the USTA Girl’s 18 division.
“Other than Ola’s first set of the day she has played awesome tennis. The win over McCall Jones from BYU is a huge win. Ola just had a win over a top 10 U.S. junior player who was very highly recruited,” head coach Kathy Kolankiewicz said.
In other tennis action, freshman Eliane Bourdages advanced in both singles and doubles play today at the UNM Individuals Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
