Former University of New Mexico All-American diver Becca Barras (2002-05) was named to the Mountain West Conference 10th Anniversary Swimming and Diving team today. Barras, a four year letterwinner at UNM, was the Lobos’ first female diving All-American. She earned All-American honors as a senior in 2005.
Barras was named MWC Diver of the Year twice, first team all-conference all four years, and was the MWC Diver of the Week a total of 17 times during her career at UNM. As four year qualifier for NCAA Diving Zones, Barras held the Lobos’ and conference best scores all four years on the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform.
The MWC 10th Anniversary Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Teams were selected by a combined panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and online fan poll. In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been a top finisher at the MWC or NCAA championships.
Anniversary teams will be chosen for each of the 19 conference-sponsored sports during the 2008-09 seasons in celebration of the Mountain West’s 10th anniversary.
The Lobo swimming and diving team hits the water Saturday to start the 2008-09 season taking on San Diego State, Colorado State and Air Force in San Diego, Calif. UNM will open the home season Nov. 1 against BYU and NAU at 11 a.m. at West Mesa Pool.
