ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Lobo freshman Carl Ho advanced to the finals of the Balloon Fiesta Invite today with two wins. Ho defeated Marek Ondruj from New Mexico Military Institute, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarterfinals and Air Force’s Cody Hall in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-1. Ho will take on Northern Arizona’s Andrew Reiff on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Fellow freshman Phillip Anderson, who was also in the “A” singles bracket, came one win shy of meeting up with Ho in the finals. After a 6-2, 6-4, win in the quarterfinals, Anderson fell to Reiff 5-7, 7-6, 6-2, in the semifinals.
The doubles finals also came close to being a Lobo-Lobo match up. Andrew Archer and Matthew Neeld notched wins in the quarterfinals, 8-5, but were defeated in the semifinals by Robin Pezzutto/Reiff of NAU. Meanwhile, Anderson and Ho also won in the quarterfinals, but were defeated in the semifinals, 9-7.
In consolation action, Archer recorded two wins on Saturday, and Neeld had one. Chandler Brass won 8-4 in a consolation singles match, but fell 8-2 in the next round.
The Balloon Fiesta Invite concludes tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 12.
