The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team finished up play today at the Jack Taylor Classic in Boise, Idaho. The Lobos won four of their eight singles matches and two of their four doubles matches.

Ola Abou Zerky and Maria Sotirchos won their doubles match today against Wlodarczyk and Megale from Boise State 8-5. Also victorious in doubles play today was Manumea Durie and Jessica Gardefjord who teamed up to beat Bourdages and Johnson from Utah 8-2.

The Lobos also came away with four wins in singles play today. Sotirchos beat Lexi Probancha from Utah 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 in a tie-breaker in the third set. Abou-Zerky beat Anastasia Putilina from Utah 6-1, 2-1. Putilina retired from the match. Emma Hayman came out victorious over Leigh Walsh from Utah 6-3, 6-2. Also to win in singles today was Mackenzie White who beat Erin Monson from Utah 6-2, 6-4.

“This was a great weekend of tough competition for the Lobos. Wetook some hard fought losses and we had some gritty wins. This kind ofcompetition will get us ready to compete for the conference title comenext spring,” associate head coach Roy Cañada said.

The Lobos will take next week off and will start UNM Individuals on Oct. 16, 2008.
