Texas A&M at New Mexico

University Stadium – 3 p.m. MT

Pregame Update – Both teams went through a quick walk through two hours prior. New Mexico paced the field in warmups. The Aggies first entered in suits but quickly transitioned into workout gear. TAMU walked through a couple of last night details before heading into the house.

Bands Take The Field – The University of New Mexico band performed the National Anthem and spelled out U.S.A. on the field. Fans continue to pour into the stadium as we creep toward kickoff.

Weather – The temperature is 86 in Albuquerque, N.M., it’s sunny and clear.

Teams Take The Field (3:03 p.m. MT) – Both teams just took the field as fans are filling in the stands. A tailgate lots are full and Lobos are plentiful. A large group of Aggies made the trip to the Land of Enchantment.

Kickoff Is Coming – UNM forced Texas A&M to down the ball in the endzone on the opening play.

Opening Drive (TAMU) –The Aggies open the game 1-10 from the 20. TAMU is moving the football on their first drive. The Aggies have picked up two first downs but were forced to punt. A great punt pins UNM at the five.

Opening Drive (UNM) 10:44 On the Clock – The Lobos picked up a first down through the air. Junior Roland Bruno made his first completion to extend the drive. A big run by senior RB Rodney Ferguson was called back by holding. TAMU forced a third and long situation and capitalized.

TOUCHDOWN AGGIES – TAMU safety Jordan Peterson intercepted a pass over the middle and returned it 48 yards for the touchdown. The Aggies added the extra point and lead 7-0 with 7:07 left in the first quarter.

Aggies Strike Again – On a second down for UNM, TAMU picked off its second pass of the day and started their second drive with great field position from the 20 yard line. Arkeith Brown had the INT for TAMU.

TOUCHDOWN AGGIES – 21 yard touchdown pass from Jerrod Johnson to Jeff Fuller. The Aggies improved their lead to 14-0 in the first quarter.

LOBOS ANSWER – DRIVE SUMMARY – 6 plays – 80 yards 2:43 seconds

UNM used the running to hit pay dirt for the first time this season. RB Rodney Ferguson brusted through the line and galloped for a 45 yard TD run. The touchdown made it 14-7 Aggies with 1:53 remaining in the opening period. UNM did not pass the football on its third drive.

END OF FIRST QUARTER – SCORE: TAMU 14 UNM 7

TAMU Punts – The Lobo defense holds the Aggies and forces a punt. UNM was flying around the football and will get a chance to tie the game. Ian Clark called for the fair catch at the 10 yard line.

UNM Drive 1-10 from 10 yard line with 13:31 remaining in second quarter.Lobos go three-and-out and were forced to punt. Adam Miller handled the punting duties. It will be TAMU ball with 10:55 left in the first half with the ball at the UNM 44.

Aggies Stumble – With great field position, TAMU can’t take advantage of it. The Lobo defense continues to play well and hold the Aggies. Texas A&M was forced to punt again.

Lobos On The Attack … with just over 8 minutes remaining in the half

UNM drove the ball 30 yards and looked to be going in for the game tying touchdown but TAMU slammed the door. The Lobos were forced to punt. Miller came through and pined the Aggies deep in their own territory.

*** NOTE *** TAMU starting QB Stephen McGee left the game early in the first quarter with a right shoulder sprain .. return is doubtful. Jerrod Johnson is running the offense for the Aggies.

UNM RB Rodney Ferguson has rushed for 100 yards 16 times during his career. Ferguson had 108 yards rushing in the first half.

TAMU TB Mike Goodson sprain his right knee during the second quarter and is doubtful to return.

OPENING SECOND HALF

Lobos offense stalls but special teams shines

UNM went three-and-out to open the second half but caused the TAMU punt returner to fumble. The Lobos recovered the loose ball and started their second drive of the half with great field position.

LOBOS KICK FIELD GOAL

UNM put three on the board and made it 21-10 Aggies with 11:07 remaining in the third. James Aho kicked a 27 yard field goal.

The official attendance was just announced …. 28,007

UNM forced TAMU to punt after a strong defensive stand … however after a strong return by Lobo Ian Clark ..the offense fumbled and the Aggies recovered.

With 8:30 left in the third, TAMU has the ball up 21-10 … at their own 24 yard line. Aggies punt. The UNM defense continues to play well.

Despite the Lobo offense struggling in the second half … SPECIAL TEAMS HAS IMPROVED … UNM punter Adam Miller places the ball at the one.

New Mexico has missed numerous scoring opportunities in the third quarter.

END OF THE THIRD QUARTER – TAMU 21 UNM 10

The Lobos fumbled on the first play of the fourth quarter and the Aggies recovered. The loose ball was picked up returned 40+ and quickly turned it into a touchdown.

AGGIES SCORE OFF TURNOVER – 9 yard pass from Jerrod Johnson to Jamie McCoy. The drive was 4 plays for 21 yards.

UPDATE: TAMU 28 UNM 10 (12:13 4th Quarter)

UNM punts after very little gain … TAMU has a strong return but has to give the ball back to New Mexico.

UPDATE: TAMU 28 UNM 10 (8:15 4th Quarter)

Lobos have the football and are driving. Ball at the TAMU 29. Senior RB Paul Baker has had a couple of nice runs this drive.

UNM transfer Bryant Williams made a big catch on the drive setting up a Baker TD run.

TOUCHDOWN LOBOS – Baker scored his first career touchdown on a five yard run. The drive was 11 plays, 68 yards and took 3:43.

TOUCHDOWN LOBOS: TAMU 28 UNM 22

The Lobos ended the game with a 17 play drive that totaled 92 yards and covered the final 2:30.
