UNM vs. San Diego State: The Aztecs hold a 27-13 lead in the series with New Mexico. The Lobos have struggled in Peterson Gym at 5-14. 2007 marked the first time UNM swept the season series against SDSU since 1999. Last season’s result in San Diego was a 3-0 win for the Lobos on Nov. 10.
Up Next: The Lobos finish their 11-match road trip with a MWC match at UNLV on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. (MDT) in Cox Pavilion.

Mileage Rewards … The Lobos are racking up some wins in September to go along with the frequent flyer miles. UNM picks up 1,719 more miles this week, Albuquerque to San Diego to Las Vegas and back to Albuquerque, bringing the four-week total to 8,375. Add on the 13,790 miles from the trip to Argentina at the beginning of Summer Break and the Lobos will have logged 22,165 miles from May 27-Sept. 27, 2008.
Fairchild Leads MWC … Senior All-America candidate Jeanne Fairchild continues to lead the Mountain West Conference in kills (4.61 ps) and points (4.97 ps) this season. Fairchild ranks seventh in the nation in kills per set.
More Tournament Wins and Honors … The Lobos picked up two more non-conference wins over the weekend, beating Sam Houston State, 3-0, and host Texas-Arlington, 3-1. Jeanne Fairchild was named to her fourth all-tournament team of the season for the UTA Holiday Inn Invitational.
A part of history … The crowd at the Devaney Center in Lincoln on Sept. 12 to watch UNM-St. John’s and Nebraska- LSU topped out at an NCAA regular season record of 13,412. The next day 4,153 crammed into the cozy confines of the NU Coliseum to watch the Huskers win their 107th consecutive home match in the Coliseum. It was also a sellout, again, for the Huskers. The sea of red cheered for every team on great plays with the loudest coming for the home team.

About New Mexico (10-2, 0-1 MWC) … The Lobos are currently 7-2 through the first nine matches of their 11-match road trip … UNM did not drop a set to start the season at 24-0, a school record. The NCAA record is 105 consecutive by Florida in 2003 … The 8-0 season start ranks fourth-best in program history … All-America candidate Jeanne Fairchild leads the Lobos with 4.61 kills per set, while sophomore Jade Michaelsen leads the setters with 10.63 assists per set … Defensively, junior Anna Lehne leads the front row with 1.26 blocks per set, while senior Gayle Tripp runs the back row with 4.67 digs per set … Lehne also has the best hitting percentage among everyday players at .344.
About San Diego State (4-7, 1-0 MWC) … The Aztecs are off to a 1-0 start in MWC action with a road win over Air Force, 3-0, in Colorado Springs on Sept. 20 … Mark Warner is in his 14th season as the head coach at San Diego State … Sophomore Lauren Salisbury is the top offensive threat for the Aztecs with 3.33 kills per set and a .375 attack percentage. She ranks in the top 5 in the MWC in both categories … The Aztecs split the setting position between Leah Lathrop and Lauren Van Orden, both average above 4.75 assists per set … Van Orden, a freshman, leads the squad in aces with 11 … Bailee Helwig leads the front row defense with 1.08 blocks per set, while Michelle Ferrer anchors the back row with 3.43 digs per set.

Lobo RPI, Unofficially … National volleyball guru Rich Kern publishes a weekly RPI, along with the Pablo RPI, both unofficial rating systems that are similar to the RPI system that the NCAA Volleyball Committee uses each November to select the field of 64 teams … The Lobos currently rank 66th in the Rich Kern ranking, while the Pablo ranking is 54th.
1,000 Digs by Tripp … Senior libero Gayle Tripp needs 180 digs to become the Lobos career leader, moving past Sharon Browning (1,504; 1989-92). Tripp moved into second place on the New Mexico career digs list in 2007 during Game Two of the Nov. 17 match against Colorado State. Tripp joined the UNM 1,000-Dig Club on Saturday, Oct. 13, against UNLV. She now has 1,325 career digs.

Fairchild Closing In On 1,000 Kills … Senior outside hitter Jeanne Fairchild moved closer to reaching the 1,000-kill career plateau with 31 kills at the UTA Holiday Inn Invitational. Now, she needs 58 kills to join the 1,000-kill club. Fairchild will need 181 kills to crack the top five on the UNM career kills list.
