It was another good day for tennis at the Lobo Tennis Club. The University of New Mexico advanced two players onto finals in singles play today, senior Ola Abou-Zerky and sophomore Anya Villanueva.
“My matches weren’t as hard as they were yesterday,” Abou-Zerky said. “I think it was a good day. Everyone was playing better. We are all a little bit tired because we had a very long day yesterday. Everyone was trying hard and fighting for every ball so we ended up with more wins than yesterday.”
Abou-Zerky defeated Julia Bauregger from Denver 6-4, 6-3 to advance.
“It has been a long day. I am excited for finals tomorrow it is my senior year and I want to do well. I want everyone to end on a high note,” Abou-Zerky said.
Villanueva came out on top over Annette Aksdale also from Denver 6-1, 6-2 to move onto finals.
In doubles play UNM won three of their five matches. Maria Sotirchos and Abou-Zerky, Mackenzie White and Emma Hayman, Jessica Gardefjord and Manumea Durie, Bonner and Villanueva were among the teams who came out victorious.
The action continues Sunday, Sept. 21 starting at 9 a.m.
