Albuquerque, N.M. – Fans at the UNM Soccer Complex sat on the edge of their seat as they watched the first game of the Nike Invitational go into an overtime screamer. Jordan Barnes beat the keeper in overtime to help Missouri State triumph over the Mustangs of Cal Poly 2-1 Friday. Missouri State recorded their first win and improved to 1-3-1 on the season, while Cal Poly falls to 2-2.

MSU scored the first goal of the match in the 16-minute mark on a goal by Kyle Windmueller. Windmueller beat two defenders in the box and scored from 15 yards, making the score 1-0, Bears. Cal Poly came out of halftime aggressively as Julian Alvarez beat the keeper far post to help the Mustangs tie the game at 1-1 in the 63 minute. Neither team could find the back of the net as the game proceeded into overtime. Not two minutes into overtime, Barnes of Missouri State stole a back pass from a Cal Poly defender to the keeper, and scored with a miraculous shot for the game-winning goal in the 91 minute. The Bears pulled out the victory to open the Nike Invitational, 2-1.

The Nike Invitational continues Sunday as Cal Poly take on the New Mexico Lobos at the UNM Soccer Complex at 5:30 p.m. (M.D.T). Missouri State tries to add another win to their record as they take on #2 Akron at 12:30 p.m. (M.D.T.).
