Besides being a veteran defender and a leader on the Lobo men’s soccer team, Mike Porter is an accounting major at the Anderson School of Management. He was born on July 2, 1986, and calls Las Cruces, N.M. home. His sister, Chelsea, is married to former Lobo All-American Brandon Moss. He is in his fifth year with the Lobos and has been a part of four Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships teams. We played 20 questions with Porter, and here are some answers about his interests and personal life.
1) What is your favorite genre of food?
Chinese Food.
2) What is your favorite place to visit?
Hawaii.
3) What is your favorite movie?
Good Will Hunting.
4) What is your favorite TV show ever?
Friends.
5) What is your favorite video game?
Halo.
6) Who was your favorite superhero growing up?
Wolverine.
7) What is your favorite ice cream?
Mint Chocolate Chip.
8) What is your favorite color?
Green.
9) Who was your hero growing up?
My Father.
10) Who was your sport Icon growing up?
Zinedine Zidane.
Now it gets interesting!
11) If you could live in another country, where would you live?
Spain…because I’m Spanish.
12) What is your favorite Sport to watch?
Soccer, I love watching the English Premier League.
13) If you could play any sport besides soccer, which sport would you play?
Tennis, because I love the competitive nature of facing another athlete one on one.
14) Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, or Harry Potter?
Lord of the Rings.
15) McCain, Obama, Other, or no comment?
I don’t pay attention too much, but I say McCain.
16) If you could trade lives with any superstar athlete, who would you choose?
David Beckham.
17) What superhero quality would you like to have?
Mind reading or Flying.
18) Could you kick a 50 yard field goal?
I never tried but I think so.
19) Could you kick a 50 yard field goal with three seconds left in a game and your team is down by two points?
Ummmm… I might have to practice a little.
20) What is the best advice you have ever received?
From my grandfather, “Do everything you can when you’re young, because you end up getting old and have fewer opportunities.
Mike Porter and the Lobos welcome Michigan State, Louisville and No. 29 UC Davis to the UNM Soccer Complex this weekend for the TLC Plumbing & Utilities Invitational. The Lobos face Michigan State on Friday at 7:30 P.M. (M.D.T), and then host Louisville at 4:00 p.m. (M.D.T) on Sunday.
