ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — With the 2008 New Mexico football season quickly approaching, GoLobos.com spotlights junior Frankie Solomon and senior Jermaine McQueen. Solomon and McQueen are the first two featured Lobos on “Getting To Know Your Lobos”.

Frankie Solomon
Position: Safety
Year: Junior
Height/Weight: 5-10/180

Fitting in: This will be Solomon’s third year and will be competing for a starting role. He has put on weight since last year and has looked good in training camp. Solomon has solid talent. He isn’t the biggest but plays fearlessly. You will also see him returning kicks this season.

Side note: Solomon’s younger brother, Quintell Solomon, is a walk-on wide receiver.

Best asset: He considers his best asset to be the knowledge of the game. Awareness, as he calls it. Knowing what the other team is going to do and what he has to do and what his teammates have to do.

Something you might not know: Solomon’s favorite NFL team is the Philadelphia Eagles. However, his favorite all-time player he said would have to be Jerry Rice. “I grew up playing receiver and I loved watching Jerry Rice play.”

From the mouth of Frankie Solomon: “I am very excited for TCU. It is more special for some of the Texas guys and I am one of them. I would love to beat TCU.”

Jermaine McQueen
Position: Wide Receiver
Year: Senior
Height/Weight: 6-1/175

Fitting in: McQueen has improved by leaps and bounds since last year. He had a great spring and has only improved during training camp. He is working on being a consistent player and looks to be a big playmaker this season. McQueen is not only the fastest receivers but can also take hits. He has the ability to break a big play and should be an impact player this season.

Side Note: McQueen finished fourth in the 100 meters at the MWC Track and Field Championships in the spring of 2008. His speed has carried over to the gridiron and he is perhaps the fastest guy on the team.

Best asset: McQueen says his best asset is getting down the field as fast as possible to create a big play. They don’t call him Lightening McQueen for nothing.

Something you might not know: During his down time he likes to hang out and watch movies or take time to get a massage.

From the mouth of Jermaine McQueen: “We have a lot of work to do to get ready for TCU. We went down there last year and got embarrassed so we don’t want the same thing to happen this year. We will be ready. The coaches are pushing us hard and we have guys stepping up in practice taking leadership roles.”
