ALBUQUERQUE (Aug. 12, 2008) – For the first time ever, over 1.5 million radio listeners will be able to catch Lobo sports action beginning this fall as 10 different radio stations will carry University of New Mexico games, highlights and coaches’ shows.
This rapid growth of the Lobo Sports Radio Network started in January, when Lobo Sports Properties began seeking out supplemental coverage across the state of New Mexico. Lobo Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports and multimedia rights holder for the University of New Mexico Athletics, assumes the University?s exclusive broadcast rights in the fall that will continue airing on long time flagship 770 KKOB.
“We’re thrilled to now have 10 station options for our fans and alumni beginning with football this season,” said Paul Krebs, UNM Vice-President for Athletics. “This network began and will continue with KKOB, a remarkable radio partner, but this additional reach is exceptional for people who have never before been able to listen to Lobo games. This is a huge milestone for our radio network and the UNM community.”
In addition to 770 KKOB-AM (Albuquerque), the Lobo Sports Radio Network includes the following stations: KATK 740 AM (Carlsbad); KCLV 1240 AM (Clovis); KYVA 1230 AM (Gallup); KMIN 980 AM (Grants); KBQL 92.7 FM (Las Vegas); KRUI 1490 AM (Ruidoso); KSSR 1340 AM (Santa Rosa), KMXQ 92.9 FM (Socorro) as well as KWMW 105.1 FM, the 100,000-watt station in Hobbs. The 10-station network nearly covers the entire state of New Mexico.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for our affiliate relations staff at Lobo Sports Properties, and we are pleased to strengthen the Lobos’ listening audience,” said Greg Brown, president of Learfield Sports, UNM’s exclusive athletics marketing partner through 2015.
In addition to New Mexico, Learfield Sports manages multimedia rights for more than 50 collegiate institutions and associations including other Mountain West members San Diego State and Wyoming. The Dallas-based company also manages the marketing partnerships for the Black Coaches & Administrators (BCA) and provides exclusive sports programming to more than 1,000 radio stations nationwide.
