ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico volleyball head coach Jeff Nelson recently announced the addition of assistant coach Lisa Beauchene and director of operations Jordie Hadfield to the Lobos staff.
“Lisa and Jordie will be great assets to our program,” said Nelson. “Lisa is a great fit to the program and brings a lot to the gym. She’ll certainly be a stabilizer in her role. Jordie comes in with experience working with the team and has great people skills. She’ll be doing a lot of our community work. I’m just really excited to have both of them coming in and hit the ground running.”
Beauchene is making a return appearance to the Lobo bench. She was an assistant coach for the Lobos for two seasons in 2005 and 2006.
During the last season, Beauchene completed her master’s degree from UNM in Sports Administration and worked for Synch, Inc., an event marketing company. She was the marketing director for two junior national qualifiers in volleyball – Colorado Crossroads and Big South – and obtained corporate sponsorships for Balloon Fiesta. Beauchene also coached New Mexico Juniors, the newest club volleyball program in the state.
A 2005 graduate of Sacramento State, Beauchene established herself as one of the top players in Hornet history from 2000-03. She was a four-time all-Big Sky Conference selection, including a three-time unanimous first team choice, and the league’s MVP during her senior season. The Auburn, Wash., native also became the first player in Big Sky history to be named Tournament MVP on three occasions. In addition, Beauchene received AVCA All-Pacific Region honors in 2003, the first Hornet to be named all-region since 1995. She was also named Big Sky Player of the Week nine times during her career, including a record five times in 2003. During her senior season, Beauchene received Sacramento State Senior Female Student-Athlete of the Year and Big Sky Scholar-Athlete honors.
Beauchene, a setter for Sac State, remains the school’s all-time leader in career hitting percentage (.348) and triple-doubles (18) while also ranking third in assists (5,153), ninth in digs (1,417), and 10th in service aces (107). She never missed a match during her four-year career, started 131 consecutive contests, and led the Hornets to the Big Sky regular season and/or tournament championship each of her four seasons. During her final eight years of playing competition, Beauchene was part of a championship team, winning four district titles at Fife High School and four Big Sky titles with the Hornets.
Beauchene was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame on June 2, 2006. She graduated from Sacramento State in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer science.
Hadfield, the older sister of Lobo sophomore Taylor Hadfield, recently graduated from the University of Oregon.
At Oregon, Hadfield was a student manager for the Ducks volleyball team for two seasons. Hadfield also spent two years working as an assistant in the Oregon financial aid office.
Hadfield played four years of high school volleyball for Redwood High School. She was an all-league performer as a senior and led her team to the California Division II state semifinals that season. As a junior, Hadfield was named the Most Improved Player on the team. A member of the National Honor Society, Hadfield was an avid youth swimmer and holds the record for the 50-backstroke in her club program.
