ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico senior golfer Alexandra Phelps carded a 4-over par 76 Thursday in the third round of the 2008 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships held at the par 72, 6,424 yard University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course. Phelps, who played 35 holes on the day, currently sits tied for 10th individually at 5-over (69-76-76=221). Phelps shot a 1-over par on the front nine despite a one hour and five minute delay due to lightning. The Albuquerque, N.M., native battled through the break to shoot a 3-over par on the back and finished her second round of 76 on the day.
Phelps only birdie during the third round came on the par 4 13th hole. She heads into the final day seven shots back of the tournament leader Azahara Munoz at 2-under par.
Munoz has the individual lead and a one shot advantage over Tiffany Jon from UCLA and Belen Mozo from Southern California.
Southern California and UCLA are tied for the team lead at 16-over. Denver, Arkansas and Arizona State are all tied for third at 28-over.
The third round will finish at 7:00 a.m. (M.D.T.) Friday and the finals will start at 8 a.m. with the normal schedule. Phelps will tee off on No. 1 at 12:20 p.m. in the final round tomorrow.
