ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team, ranked No. 55, could not hang on against No. 24 TCU on Sunday. The Lobos collected a huge upset at the No. 1 doubles before the Horned Frogs swept singles.

In doubles, junior Ola Abou-Zekry and senior Lucy Scott battled the only ranked pair, No. 12 Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska. The Lobos pair never trailed to collect the upset 9-7 (7-2) at the No. 1 spot. On the No. 2 court, junior Mackenzie White and senior Jennifer Ryba jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Katariina Tuohimaa and Idunn Hertzberg but the TCU pair went 8-1 for an 8-3 win.

The Horned Frogs went ahead 1-0 when they won doubles after Nina Munch-Soegaard and Maria Babanova beat the Lobo freshmen pair of Emma Hayman and Victoria Tessmar 8-6 with a 3-0 run.

In singles, Hayman won her first set before Tuohimaa won the match with a third set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) at the No. 4 spot. Abou-Zekry, nationally ranked No. 123, tried to fight off No. 63 Munch-Soegaard at the No. 1 spot but the Horned Frog won in two long sets 6-2, 6-3.

Less than a minute later, White fell to Harkins 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. Ryba was unable to find an answer for Kewa Nichols at the No. 5 spot with Nichols winning 6-3, 6-2.
