ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team (12-7, 4-1 MWC) plays its last three matches of the regular season at the Lobo Tennis Club this weekend. First up for the Lobos, ranked No. 55, is a match against No. 54 Utah at 2 p.m. Friday. A neutral match on Friday morning will give one team its first MWC loss when BYU and TCU go head-to-head. Saturday, UNM and BYU, ranked No. 38, square off.
Senior Day is Sunday with a presentation starting at 11 a.m. followed by a match against MWC leader No. 24 TCU. New Mexico will send off two seniors, Jennifer Ryba and Lucy Scott, who will play their final matches on the home clay. Admission is free all weekend.
The Utes are working on a three-match win streak at 13-6 overall and 4-1 in MWC action. They have a 6-4 mark when playing on the road this season. Their most recent action was a 4-1 victory over Wyoming on April 6. The Lobos hold a slight 13-11 advantage in the series against Utah.
BYU strides in with 13-8 overall record and a perfect 5-0 in MWC play. They have won five straight, all MWC matches, after losing there last two non-conference matches. BYU steps on the Albuquerque courts against TCU on Friday before facing the Lobos.
The Horned Frogs are also 5-0 in MWC action with a 15-4 overall mark. They have won their previous eight matches with the last loss coming at the hands of Auburn, No. 39 at the time, 4-3 on March 11. New Mexico has lost all four previous matches against TCU while BYU dominates the series against the Lobos 24-3.
The MWC championships will be held in Fort Worth, Texas beginning April 23.
