LUBBOCK, Texas — The University of New Mexico baseball team was only able to get four hits tonight at Dan Law Field as Texas Tech beat the Lobos, 10-0. New Mexico (20-12) will be trying to gain a split in the 2008 series when the two teams play again on Wednesday, April 9, at 2 p.m. (MDT).
The Lobos made it through the first five innings of the game relatively unscathed, only giving up one run in the bottom of the fifth to give Texas Tech a 1-0 lead.
UNM starter John Hesketh (2-2) struck out three, did not allow a walk, and gave up the lone run on three hits through five innings, before giving up two hits and a walk to start the sixth. Lorenzo Douglas (2-0) got the win for the Red Raiders in five innings of work.
The Red Raiders (17-15) went on to score nine more runs over their final three innings for the 10-0 win.
Catcher Drew McDonald and second baseman Mike Brownstein were the only Lobos to get past first base in the game. Brownstein got on base twice with a single and a walk, advancing to second each time on a ground out on the first and a stolen base in the third. McDonald hit a double with two outs in the second.
Lobo Notes: The Lobos are receiving votes in the USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll for the second time this season … Senior Bobby LaFromboise was named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
