New Mexico senior Alexandra Phelps has been selected the Mountain West Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month for March.

Phelps, an Albuquerque, N.M., native, earned her first honor this year after placing a career-best fourth at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, and leading the Lobos to their first team trophy since 2005.

She began the month shooting an eight-over-par 224 (71-77-76) at the UCF Challenge March 9-11, including carding a season-low first-round 71 on the 6,356-yard Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.

At the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational March 17-19, Phelps finished fourth individually with a 36-hole total of 11-over-par 155 (73-82) on the 6,344-yard University of Texas Golf Course in Austin, Texas. She helped the Lobos to their first team title since 2005, defeating a total field of 17 teams, including three top-25 programs.

Phelps currently ranks 10th in the MWC in stroke average (76.55).
