ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team (8-6) heads to Fort Worth, Texas, to face its first three Mountain West Conference opponents of the season. On Friday, the Lobos and Air Force square off at 2 p.m. (MDT). New Mexico and Wyoming battle on Saturday, also at 2 p.m. UNM finishes the weekend against Colorado State at 10 a.m.
The Lobos moved up in the national rankings to No. 53 from No. 57.
The Air Force Falcons are 5-13 this season with a loss to MWC foe Wyoming for a 0-1 conference record. Air Force has a two-match losing streak and has lost seven of its last nine. The Falcons’ last win was against Colorado College on March 7.
The Wyoming Cowgirls come in with a 10-5 record and 1-0 in MWC play. They have won five of their last six defeating Santa Clara, 5-2, on the road on March 22.
Colorado State slides in at 6-3 this season. In their most recent action they did not allow an opponent to score. They beat Southern Utah on March 16, Dixie State on March 17 and Wisconsin-Green Bay on March 18 all 7-0 in neutral matches. The Rams will face TCU on Friday before battling the Lobos.
New Mexico has a combined 38-0 record against the three teams it will face this weekend. Against Air Force, the Lobos have won all 11 meetings. Wyoming has fallen in all 10 matches against New Mexico and Colorado State and UNM have met 17 times.
Up next, New Mexico will face San Diego State on April 4 and UNLV on April 5 in Las Vegas, Nev., for its final road matches of the season.
