The University of New Mexico men’s golf team dropped 10 spots from a tie for second to 12th in the final round of the National Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., today. After starting the day at even-par, the Lobos shot a 20-over 308 and finish the tournament with an 884 (286-290-308).

Sophomore Brandon Putnam started the day in fourth place in the individual race, but a final round 77 left him at 1-over par and in 20th. His three round total of 217 (71-69-77) is still his best 54-hole total as a Lobo. He also recorded his second career top-20 finish.

Junior Steve Saunders tied for 21st at 2-over (68-73-77) after his final round 77. Junior Jon Sauer led the Lobos in the final round with a 76, but tied for 48th in the individual race at 8-over (75-73-76). Freshman Tom Carlson carded a 78 (74-77-78=229, +13) and senior Robb Bierbaum finished with a 79 (73-75-79=227, +7) in the final round.

The Lobos next travel to the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas, on April 7-8.
