Honolulu, Hawaii — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team battled strong winds in Honolulu but fell to Nevada 6-1 on Tuesday. The Lobos fall to 7-6 on the season with one non-conference match remaining on the schedule. UNM will take Wednesday off before facing San Diego on Thursday in Honolulu.
Emma Hayman gave the Lobos a point on the singles courts with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Lais Ogata in the No. 5 spot. Nevada’s Caroline Bailly ended Sandra Zmak’s nine-match win streak with the 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2.
In doubles, Lucy Scott and Zmak were outlasted by No. 58 Bailly and Mizyuk, 9-8. Jennifer Ryba and Victoria Tessmar also faced a long doubles match but lost to Florence De Vrye and Ogata, 9-7, at No. 3.
The Lobos begin conference on March 28 against Air Force in Fort Worth, Texas.
