Lobo Women’s Golf Slips To 17th Place at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla.— The 22nd-ranked New Mexico women’s golf team is currently in 17th place after the second round of the UCF Challenge held at the Red Tail Golf Course in Orlando, Fla. The Lobos posted a 22-over par on the day and are 29-over par for the tournament heading into the final round at the par 72, 6,356-yard course. No. 1 Duke leads the event after shooting a 12-under par 564 and has an 8-shot advantage on the 18-team field.

Senior Alexandra Phelps leads the way for the Lobos and is tied for 42nd place after shooting a 4-over par on the tournament. Phelps, who tied her season low score for 18 holes with a 1-under par 71 Sunday, finished the day shooting a 77 along with two birdies.

Sophomore Jodi Ewart recorded a 5-over par 77 on the second day and sits tied for 60th place. Ewart finished with two birdies on the day and is shooting a 6-over par for the tournament.

Junior Morgan Grantham finished with a 6-over par for the second round and is currently tied for 69th place. Grantham is shooting a 7-over par for the tournament and also recorded a birdie on the day.

Sophomore Britney Choy finished the second day of action shooting a 6-over par and finished with two birdies. Choy is tied for 77th place shooting 12-over par on the tournament. Junior Mikaela Backstedt also finished day two shooting a 6-over par and recorded 3 birdies. Backstedt is currently tied for 80th place and is shooting a 13-over par for the tournament.

Duke’s Alison Whitaker 8-under par, and teammate Amanda Blumenherst 7-under par, lead the individual field. Duke also leads the team field followed by second place Purdue shooting 4-under par, and USC and Florida both tied for third shooting a 1-under par respectively.
