Lawrence, Kan. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team fall to 6-5 after dropping a 4-3 match against the Kansas Jayhawks.
Ola Abou-Zekry, ranked No. 116, beat Magdalena Tokarczyk 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot. Sandra Zmak played the No. 2 spot for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Elizaveta Avdeeva.Lucy Scott also earned the Lobos a point with a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0(5) win over Yuliana Svistun at No. 5.
Head coach Kathy Kolankiewicz said: “It was a hard fought match, Kansas is a great team. Kansas came out hot in doubles and ready to play. They just beat us.”
New Mexico was swept in doubles and could not win a fourth singles match falling in the dual.
The Lobos head to Hawaii for three matches before beginning conference play.
