ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team won its second straight match after they lost the doubles point by beating Western Michigan on Sunday. The Lobos improve to 5-4 on the season and 4-2 at home.

Lucy Scott and Sandra Zmak beat Ashley Moccia and Noriko Saruta 8-3 at the No. 1 spot. The Lobos had two chances to win the point but Jennifer Ryba and Emma Hayman were down 7-2 and could not recover losing 8-3 against Kerstin Pahl and Amanda Moccia.

The doubles point came down to the No. 3 match where Ola Abou-Zekry and Maria Sotirchos battled Emily Dudzik and Yumi Matsuto. The Lobo pair made a run but was unable to come back from a 6-4 deficit giving Western Michigan the doubles point.

New Mexico rebounded by sweeping singles. Mackenzie White tied the dual with her 6-4, 6-0 win against Dudzik at No. 3. Zmak gave the Lobos the lead with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 over Noriko Saruta. Emma Hayman finished quickly after Zmak with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Ashley Moccia.

Scott gave the Lobos the victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Matsuto at No. 5 seconds before Ryba fished her match against Amanda Moccia with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Abou-Zekry lost her first set 7-5 but fought back to win the second set 6-4 then dominated the 10-point tiebreaker 10-5 for the sixth singles victory for UNM.

The Lobos do not return home until April 11 when they face conference foe Utah.
