Wildcat Invitational Round 1 Results in PDF Format ![]()
TUCSON, Ariz. — The 27th-ranked New Mexico women’s golf team shot a 14-over par 298 Monday in the opening round of the Wildcat Invitational. Sophomore Jodi Ewart shot even par at the Par 71, 6,166 yard Arizona National Golf Course and currently sits tied for ninth. UNM enters the second round 11 shots back of Arizona State for the tournament lead.
Ewart, who is ranked 19th individually, shot a 1-under par on the back nine and a 1-over par on the front. During the round, Ewart shot a 71 with four birdies and only sits three shots behind Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst for the lead.
Junior Morgan Grantham shot a 2-over par 73 in the opening round and is tied for 19th individually. Grantham carded a 2-over on the back but recovered to shoot an even-par on the front nine. The Kingman, Ariz., native had two birdies on the day.
Sophomore Britney Choy and senior Alexandra Phelps shot 6-over par and are tied for 50th. Choy managed two birdies during the round, while Phelps had one on her way to a score of 77.
Junior Mikaela Backstedt is tied for 64th after shooting a 7-over par 78 Monday. Junior Py Bengtsson, who is playing unattached, carded an 8-over par 79 and is tied for 68th individually.
The Sun Devils sit atop the team leaderboard at 3-over par 287 but four teams are one shot back after the opening round. The tournament host Arizona along with Oklahoma State, Duke and UCLA are tied for second at 4-over par.
Blumenherst has a one shot lead over Mari Chun from Stanford but 13 golfers shot even or under par on the opening day. Six golfers are tied for third at 1-under par 70 and five including Ewart are even.
