The University of New Mexico men’s golf team dropped two spots into a tie for 18th at the 2008 John Burns Intercollegiate. The Lobos shot a 4-over 292 in today’s second round at the Leilehua Golf Course in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Freshman Tom Carlson led UNM with a 2-under 70.

The Lobos are 6-over (290-292=582) through 36 of the 54-hole event. No. 15 Auburn leads the way at 25-under (278-273=551).

Carlson shot his first collegiate round under par today with his 70. He is tied for 43rd in the individual race at 1-under (73-70=143). Cal’s Stephen Hale (67-67=134) and San Diego State’s Johan Carlsson (66-68=134) lead the individual race at 10-under.

Three Lobos shot 74 today, including juniors Parker Pemberton, Jon Sauer and Steve Saunders. Saunders is 1-over after two rounds (71-74=145) while Sauer (73-74=147) and Pemberton (73-74=147) are 3-over. Sophomore Kyle Nielsen shot a 7-over 79 and is 9-over for the tournament (74-79=153).

The third and final round takes place tomorrow at the Leilehua Golf Course.
