ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team, ranked No. 63, defeated the Idaho Vandals 7-0 on Thursday. The Lobos swept the singles after winning only their second doubles point of the season. The Lobos have a winning record for the first time this season at 3-2 while the Vandals fall to 1-2.

New Mexico won two out of three doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Lucy Scott and Sandra Zmak teamed up to beat Silvia Irimescu and Laura Leoni 8-4. Jennifer Ryba and Victoria Tessmar earned the Lobos a point with an 8-6 victory over Yvette Ly and Basia Maciocha. Maria Sotirchos and Anya Villanueva-Forte played their first home dual match of the season but fell short, 8-6, to Alexandra Ulesanu and Jana Siwa.

In singles, No. 85 Zmak earned her second win of the year over Ulesanu 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. Ola Abou-Zekry also won 6-2, 6-2 over Maciocha at No. 1. Playing No. 2, Mackenzie White had the longest match and came out victorious over Irimescu 7-5, 6-2. The shortest match was between Ryba and Natalie Kirch, which ended in Ryba’s favor 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6.

Up next, the Lobos hit the road for Louisiana to battle LSU and Louisiana-Lafayette next weekend, Feb 16 and 17 respectively.
