Alpine Notes … Malin Hemmingsson won her first giant slalom race on Feb. 1 at the Western State Invitational. Hemmingsson is tied for fourth in alpine career wins on New Mexico’s all-time women’s list with Ida Lundeberg (1987-90) and Caroline Schicht (2001-03) … Tor Fodnesbergene won his sixth alpine race with a win in the slalom at the Utah Invitational on Jan. 20. Fodnesbergene is tied for first on the New Mexico all-time men’s alpine wins list with Stefan Lanzier (1997-99) and Lars Loseth (2004-07). He also holds first place on the all-time slalom wins list with four.
Nordic Notes … Polina Ermoshina has placed in the Top 10 in four of six races so far this season along with an 11th-place and a 13th-place finish … Simon Reissmann has placed in the Top 10 in three of six races along with two 11th-place finishes.
New Mexico Invitational … This will be the 21st running of the University of New Mexico Invitational … The University of Denver won the 2007 meet with 592.5 points, while the Lobos finished third with 480 points … Malin Hemmingsson picked up her first collegiate win at the 2007 meet in the women’s slalom … Former Lobo Lars Loseth earned his sixth collegiate win in the 2007 men’s giant slalom … Tor Fodnesbergene earned his fifth collegiate win in 2007, taking the men’s slalom title … The women’s Nordic team won the 2007 5K classic with three Top-10 finishes by Polina Ermoshina (5th), Melanie Zemp (8th), and Crystin Jaques (9th). The women’s Alpine team won the slalom competition with three Top-10 finishes by Hemmingsson (1st), Karin Ohlin (8th), and Amy Beresford (9th).
Up Next: The Lobos will compete in the NCAA West Regionals on Feb. 22-23 in Bridger Bowl, Mont. Bridger Bowl will also be the site of the NCAA Championships from March 5-8.
