ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team, ranked No. 62, welcomes Idaho on Thursday. The Lobos, 2-2 on the season, play their fourth home dual match this year. The match starts at 5 p.m. in the Lobo Tennis Club bubbles. Admission is free.
New Mexico fell a spot to No. 63 in the national rankings on Tuesday. The Lobos took their first road trip of the season to play outdoors for the first time since mid-November in Las Cruces on Sunday. New Mexico had another first, they not only won the doubles point, but they swept the doubles. They went on to finish the sweep 7-0, winning all six singles. New Mexico increased its lead to 24-3 in the series. They also increased the score in the Rio Grande Rivalry to 9-6. The Lobos have not lost (5-0) to the Vandals in the five previous meetings.
Idaho is 1-1 this season. They have only played one day, Jan. 19, after inclement weather postponed last weekend’s matches. The Vandals won their first match against Lewis & Clark and fell to Washington State. The final score was 7-0 in both matches.
The Lobos play they first matches outside of New Mexico this season when they head to Louisiana. In Baton Rouge, they start with a match against LSU on Feb. 16 and then battle Louisiana-Lafayette on Feb. 17.
