ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Senior Max Jones has been named the Mountain West Conference men’s tennis player of the week. He also earned the honor as a freshman for the week of Feb. 2, 2005, the same year he received MWC Freshman of The Year recognition.
Jones, a Chicester, West Sussex native, is nationally ranked No. 35 in singles and No. 48 in doubles with senior Kamil Pajkowski.
Jones played at the No. 2 spot against No. 22 Boise State last week. He dropped the first set against No. 19 Clancy Shields but battled back for the 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 upset. Jones improved to 6-3 this season in singles.
In doubles, Jones and Pajkowski defeated the Broncos’ Piotr Dilaj and Luke Shields 8-3 at the No. 1 spot. The pair is undefeated, 2-0, in dual matches and 8-2 on the year.
Jones and the Lobos have this week off. The next matches for New Mexico come on the road against Vanderbilt on Feb. 7 and Middle Tennessee State on Feb. 9.
