WINTER PARK, Colo. — Lobo sophomore Polina Ermoshina finished second in the women’s 10km classical race on Sunday at the 14th Annual Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial/Colorado Invitational. New Mexico finished the ski meet in fourth place with 464 points.
Ermoshina finished the race with a time of 31:52.9 to pick up 29 points for the Lobos. Melanie Zemp placed 13th, followed by Crystin Jaques in 26th for the remaining women’s points.
On the men’s side, freshman Simon Reissmann just missed his fourth Top-10 finish of the season by 2.8 seconds. Reissmann was the top Lobo finisher in the 15km classic with an 11th-place time of 41:37.1. Sophomore Tor-Hakon Hellebostad finished 16th, less than a minute behind Reissmann. Freshman Martin Kaas earned his first points of the season for UNM with a 19th-place finish.
The Lobos are currently in fifth place in the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association with 855.5 points over the first two meets of the season. The next collegiate competition will be Feb. 1-2, hosted by Western State in Crested Butte, Colo. The Nordic squad will take a training trip this week to Durango, Colo., on Jan. 26.
