ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Now that finals are over for the semester, the New Mexico ski team will wrap up the fall training season with one more weekend, Dec. 13-16, of FIS and USSA competition. The Nordic squad will compete in training races in Soldier Hollow, Utah, while the Alpiners return to Winter Park, Colo., for the second consecutive weekend.
Several Alpine team members competed in slalom training races at Winter Park, Dec. 8-9. This weekend’s races will be giant slalom and super G.
On Dec. 8, men’s newcomer Christoffer Norell finished eighth overall, while sophomore Olivier Lacaille finished 17th. The second day saw sophomore Gary Beresford lead the group with a 28th-place finish.
For the women, 2007 NCAA champion Malin Hemmingsson finished 11th overall on the first day of competition. On Dec. 9, junior Karin Ohlin took fourth place, while Amy Beresford finished 20th.
The collegiate season begins on Jan. 4-5, 2008, with the Alpine portion of the Colorado Invitational.
