ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Women’s golf team travels to Reunion,
Fla., this Sunday, Nov. 4, to compete in the Hooters Collegiate Match
Play Championship. The 16 team field will play 36 holes on Sunday
followed by 18 holes slated for both Monday and Tuesday on the 6,225
yard, par-72 Ginn Reunion Resort Golf Course. Competition will begin at
7:30 a.m. EST on Sunday, 8:30 a.m. Monday, and finals beginning at 8:00
a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6. Of the 16 teams participating, 15 are ranked
among the nation’s top-30 in this week’s edition of the Golfweek
rankings. Among the top 10 teams competing include No. 2 Duke, No. 5
Florida, No. 9 Auburn and No. 10 Purdue.
Also competing this week are the following: No. 11 Georgia, No. 12
Denver, No. 13 Tennessee, No. 15 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Alabama, No. 19
Vanderbilt, No. 21 Michigan State, No. 24 TCU, No. 25 New Mexico, No.
27 Texas A&M, No. 30 South Carolina, and No. 32 Louisville.
The Lineup – New Mexico’s lineup for the Hooters Collegiate will
consist of seniors Alexandra Phelps and Giselle Claux, along with
juniors Morgan Grantham and Mikaela Backstedt. Sophomore Jodi Ewart
rounds out the lineup for the Lobos and is currently ranked No. 17 in
the nation.
Las Vegas Collegiate – The Lobos are coming off an impressive
fifth place finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown led by junior
Mikaela Backstedt. The Lobos as a team shot an overall 218 and finished
2 over par. Backstedt finished 2-over par and finished 10th overall and
both Ewart and Phelps finished 3-over par coming in tied for 11th. This
is the fourth time Jodi Ewart has finished in the top 15 this season.
