New Mexico Head Coach Rocky Long
“After last week’s experience, there are no such things as ugly wins. In the history of New Mexico football, wins are so hard to come by that anytime you win it’s pretty. I think it was a big time win. I knew it was going to be a game like that because we always play Colorado State like that. I think Colorado State has the best coach in the league and I think to keep a team playing as hard as they did today is a great job of coaching. There are a lot of teams in this country that at 1-8 they would have rolled over and died, and those guys came to play, but Sonny’s teams always come to play.”
“It was no surprise to me that Sullivan made it. He does that every day in practice. We count down the clock every day on the kicking team and Sullivan. He makes most of them in practice so you have confidence he will make them in the game.”
“I don’t think we have been playing with the confidence today that we have that we have been playing with previously. I thought we looked a little shaky on defense in the first half and we looked really shaky in offense in the second half, and I think that was due to confidence more than anything else.”
Colorado State Head Coach Sonny Lubick
“It was a great game to the fans, most everyone who watched it. The kids played their butts off.”
“We didn’t dominate in the first quarter, as far as defense we only gave three field goals the rest of the way, but we dug ourselves a hole in the first quarter. I thought we moved the ball pretty well and we had a lot of yards, but that always doesn’t count does it.”
“Rocky’s a good guy, good football coach, and he was probably surprised and amazed like all coaches are at how well our kids could play. Our coaches do a good job of keeping our guys alive as long as they have.”
New Mexico Senior K John Sullivan
“I had the feeling the defense was going to stop them. I knew it was going to come down to kicking the field goal for me to win the game. It was a little bit of a pressure situation when it came down to it, but I was confident in myself and I went out there knowing I was going to make the kick. I was also thinking ‘Please God let it go through.'”
New Mexico Senior DE Tyler Donaldson
(on the Lobos’ final defensive stand):
“We finally got some momentum on our side. We figured that they were trying to score and we ended up getting a sack. We knew they were going to run the ball and try and run the clock out, and we just teed off on them. We shot the gaps and were able to make some plays.”
