Q & A With Ryan BoydBy UNM Media Relations Assistant D.J. Renteria
Senior Ryan Boyd is a versatile veteran who moved over to the offensive line after two years on the other side of the trenches. He redshirted in 2005 after transferring to UNM from Shasta College in Redding, Calif. the previous spring. Boyd has been a solid scout team contributor on the offensive line, helping to prepare the Lobo defense each week. He has also made steady progress in the weight room, putting up 308 in the power clean and 475 in the squat.
Boyd was an all-conference defensive lineman at Shasta College, racking up 11 tackles for loss and five sacks for head coach Craig Thompson in 2004.
D.J. Renteria: Was there any one in particular that you looked up to athletically growing up?
Ryan Boyd: I was a fan of Lawrence Taylor and the way he played. He was a great athlete. My junior college football coach really helped me also with many things that came up in life.
DR: What characteristics go in to the making of a good offensive lineman?
RB: Patience is a huge thing. Many times offensive linemen want to attack defenses and that leads to mistakes. Great footwork is another important thing.
DR: What is the best thing about being a senior?
RB: Just knowing that a long journey is close to being over and a new journey is about to begin. I have been playing football since I was in fifth grade and the thought of this being my last days of playing is a little scary.
DR: If you didn’t play offensive line what position would you play?
RB: I would love to go back to playing defensive line, which I used to play before moving to offensive line.
DR: If you were stranded on a deserted island what two things must you have with you?
RB: Food and water to make it easier to survive!
DR: If you had to pick between Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie who would you pick?
RB: Angelina!! She is absolutely gorgeous.
DR: Do you have a favorite resturaunt around town?
RB: This place called Los Cuates. They have the best beef enchiladas around!
DR: Do you have any hidden talents?
RB: I am really good at Halo3! I am working on my skills before I start playing online.
