LAS VEGAS, Nev. — New Mexico women’s golf tied for fifth at the Las Vegas Showdown held at the par 72, 6,050 yard Angel Park Mountain Golf Course. The Lobos shot an even par 288 in the finals to jump five spots on the team leader board. Junior Mikaela Backstedt finished 10th individually after shooting a 1-under par. Sophomore Jodi Ewart and senior Alexandra Phelps both tied for 11th. Ewart shots a 1-under par 71 in the finals while Phelps was even Wednesday. Denver captured the team title by 11 strokes over Arizona.

Backstedt cracked the top 10 individually after carding a 2-over par. Backstedt had three birdies on the final day and moved up five spots.

Ewart, who is ranked 15th according to Golfstat, was tied for 25th heading into the finals and leaped into a tie for 11th. During the tournament, Ewart carded rounds of 75-73-71 for a total of 219.

Phelps also shot a 219 for the three rounds and moved up four places on the final day. In one of her best outings, Phelps was 3-over par for the tournament with rounds of 71-76-72.

Senior Giselle Claux finished tied for 58th after finishing the tournament at 13-over par. Claux, who was playing unattached, had her best round Wednesday after shooting an even par 72.

Junior Morgan Grantham was 2-over par 74 in the finals and was 14-over par for the tournament. Grantham tied for 61st individually. Junior Py Bengtsson was 92nd after going 33-over par after three rounds. Bengtsson was 14-over par on the final day.
