UNM Women’s Golf Slips to 10th at Las Vegas Showdown

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — New Mexico women’s golf falls to 10th place after the second round of the Las Vegas Showdown. The Lobos were 12-over par in round two at the par 72, 6,050 yard Angel Park Mountain Golf Course. Junior Mikaela Backstedt jumped for 51st to 15th after shooting a 1-under par 71 Tuesday. Backstedt leads UNM into the finals Wednesday.

Senior Alexandra Phelps entered the second round in seventh place but shot a 4-over par 76 and slipped into a tie for 15th. Phelps has a tournament total of 147 heading into the finals.

Sophomore Jodi Ewart moved up to 25th on the leaderboard after shooting a 1-over par in the second round. Ewart was two shots better Tuesday than her opening round and is 4-over par for the tournament.

Junior Morgan Grantham fell to 69th place after carding an 8-over par. Grantham is 12-over par for the tournament. Senior Giselle Claux is playing unattached and is tied for 73rd. Claux was 7-over par Tuesday and 13-over for the event. Junior Py Bengtsson is the final Lobo and is tied for 85th. Bengtsson was 12-over par in the second round.

Denver’s Katie Kampter leads the individual event at 8-under par. Alejandra Llanaza from Arizona is second at 5-under. Denver leads the tournament at 6-under par. Arizona is second at 1-under while Tennessee is third at 3-over par.
