ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –The New Mexico women’s golf team travels to Las Vegas, Nev., this coming Monday Oct. 29, to participate in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The 18-team field will play 18 holes each day on the 6,722- yard, par-71 Angel Park Golf Club Course. Competition will begin Monday morning and continue through Wednesday, Oct. 31. Of the 18 participating squads, 12 are ranked among the nation’s top-30 teams recognized in this week’s edition of the Golfweek rankings, including the Lobos at No. 27. That list also includes No. 8 Arizona, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 13 Denver and No. 15 Oklahoma State.
Also competing this weekend are the following: No. 16 Pepperdine, No. 17 Kent State, No. 23 TCU, No. 26 Texas A&M, No. 32 Stanford, No. 37 BYU and No. 48 Missouri. Rounding out the field are Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Long Beach State, SMU, UNLV and Washington.
The Lineup – New Mexico’s lineup for the Las Vegas Collegiate includes seniors Alexandra Phelps and Giselle Claux along with juniors Mikaela Backstedt, Py Bengtsson, and Morgan Grantham. Sophomore Jodi Ewart rounds out the lineup for the Lobos and has finished in the top 15 three times this season.
Stanford Intercollegiate – The Lobos are coming off an 11th place finish at the Stanford Intercollegiate on Oct. 19-21 and were led individually by sophomore Jodi Ewart. Ewart finished tied for 13th at the tournament and is currently ranked No. 23 in the nation.
