The University of New Mexico men’s golf team struggled to an 11th-place tie after two rounds of the Club Glove Intercollegiate in Somis, Calif., today. The Lobos finished the day at 67-over par (323-320=643) after two rounds of battling 45 mile-per-hour winds amid the wildfires of southern California. Pepperdine, the host of the 54-hole event, leads after two rounds at 30-over (300-306=606).

New Mexico was led by junior Steve Saunders’ two round total of 157 (74-83, +13). He is currently 20th in the individual standings. Sophomore Kyle Nielsen is tied of 29th at 15-over after posting 80-79 in his first two rounds. Senior Robb Bierbaum (84-79=163) is in a tie for 42nd at 19-over, while junior Jon Sauer is one stroke back (85-79=164, +20). Sophomore Brandon Putnam also played in today’s first two rounds and is 59th in the individual standings (87-83=170, +11).

The final round starts tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. (M.D.T.). This is ths final event for New Mexico for the fall season.
