PALO ALTO, Calif. — New Mexico sophomore Jodi Ewart shot a 4-over par 75 Saturday to lead the Lobos in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate. Ewart is 2-over par for the tournament at the par 71, 6,089 yard Stanford Golf Course and enters the finals tied for third. UNM is 13th after two rounds and four strokes from cracking the top 10. Duke leads the event at 6-over par while Blue Devil Amanda Blumenherst is the individual leader at 3-under par.
Ewart, who is ranked 23rd nationally according to Golfweek, remains in the hunt for the individual title. Ewart is among some of the best collegiate players in country competing for the title. Blumenherst leads the event but defending national champion Stacy Lewis from Arkansas is in second at 1-under par. Ewart and Mari Chun from Southern California are tied for third. Ewart has fired rounds of 69 and 75 for a tournament total of 144.
Senior Giselle Claux is tied for 48th after shooting an 8-over par 79 in the second round. Claux is 13-over par for the event and has a total score of 155. Junior Mikaela Backstedt had the second best round for UNM on the day after firing a 5-over par 76. Backstedt is tied for 60th while fellow junior Py Bengtsson is tied for 78th. Bengtsson shot a 7-over par Saturday and is 21-over par. Senior Alexandra Phelps is in 92nd place at 31-over par.
New Mexico will tee off at 8:24 a.m. PT with Oregon State and Oregon. The Lobos are slated to go off the 10th tee box. A complete UNM recap will be posted at www.GoLobos.com following the round.
