ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico women’s tennis senior Jennifer Ryba played freshman teammate Emma Hayman to advance to the finals. Ryba won the match (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) to earn a shot at the championship in Draw A.

Before having to play against each other, they had to agree with each in other in doubles. The pair won two straight matches to take the championship of the consolation round. They beat Orsi Golovics and Edit Suhajda from Northern Arizona, 8-4.

The other doubles team, Mackenzie White and Maria Sotirchos traded points with Stephanie Eusebe and Paulina Zuniga from NMS. The NMSU pair came out ahead 9-7 in the end to win the championship of the main draw.Sotirchos will also be playing for a main draw championship in singles when play continues on Sunday.

Tessmar won her round robin match but lost her first match of the tournament to NAU’s Kim Van Ginkel (5-7, 6-2, 6-1) to fall into the consolation draw.

The finals will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday inside the tennis bubbles on the UNM South campus.
